After 10+ years doing this, most of the work still happens before the product exists, in the concept, the references, the direction behind it. I think about how a piece moves, what it references, the story it tells before anything needs explaining. From there it’s material, proportion, and finish, pushing it until it feels right. Concept isn’t something I add on later, it’s the starting point. If that part doesn’t hold, nothing else really does.
